Rotterdamse Baan

The number of inhabitants in the Hague is growing and the city invites more and more people and companies to visit and settle. Accessibility plays an important role in this. The ‘Rotterdamsebaan’ is part of this and makes the area more accessible by connecting the highways A4/A13 to the centre of the city. The road consists partly of two parallel drilled tunnels with a diameter of 10 meters.

The project, led by the joint venture Bam – VolkerWessels, was commissioned by the Hoogheemraadschap Delftland. Visser & Smit Hanab has had the lead in the cable and pipeline coordination for this project. As a part of this large project, Visser & Smit Hanab has constructed 2 pipes underneath the A4 highway.

Scope V&SH

  • Establish work-sites

  • Construction of 2 pipe strings HPE 800m, to be pulled in using HDD

  • Execution of drillings

  • Installation of pipelines in trench

  • Testing of pipes

  • Connecting pipes to the pump and surrounding water ways

Working on a small worksite is complex, bringing its own challenges. It is therefore important to have a good understanding with all involved parties within the project, such as client and surrounding residents. In addition we had to comply to a tight planning and could not afford any delay. The project was however finished successfully and within schedule.
