Visser & Smit Hanab Secure Major HDD Works at Felixstowe Port for UKPN

Visser & Smit Hanab (V&SH) have recently been awarded the contract to carry out a total of nine major Horizontal Directional Drills (HDD’s) around the Felixstowe port area to boost power supplies in south Suffolk and north Essex which are serviced by UK Power Networks (UKPN).

The project will be delivered by McNicholas who are one of UKPN’s strategic Capital Delivery Alliance partners.   V&SH were selected by UKPN and McNicholas for their expertise in the field of HDD knowing they were able to develop their requirements from initial concepts, through the design process and on to execution.

During the feasibility and engineering process  V&SH developed drilling designs for the River Orwell (4 drillings of 965m),  River Stour (2x 1555m) and Railway (3x 215m).

V&SH are currently in the preparation phase for the works and are planned to commence drilling in July 2017 with the HDD element section of the works planned to be completed by the end of October 2017
