Visser & Smit Hanab is one of the leading companies in the field of advanced underground drilling technologies. Traditionally using ‘classic' drilling technologies such as rocket drilling and open front drilling in the pipeline and cable laying activities, we were one of the pioneers in the late 1970s when shield drilling first became popular in Europe.
In 1984, Visser & Smit Hanab was involved in the introduction into Europe of horizontal directional drilling, also known as HDD or HDD drilling.
Right up to this day, we have remained one of the leaders in trenchless technologies by developing drilling technologies and significantly increasing speed.
An article (unfortunately only in Dutch) about one of our first HDDs for a gas pipeline near Rotterdam, the Netherlands is available below.
The refinement of our techniques and the introduction of new drilling methods mean that horizontal directional drilling is becoming an increasingly attractive option for our clients. The fact that Visser & Smit Hanab has in-house expertise in all fields only reinforces this economic advantage.
By combining this expertise in different fields, we are able to provide an integral and turnkey delivery of trenchless technology projects from the design stage right through to maintenance.
