20 HDDs Harmelen

Harmelen (municipality of Woerden) is regularly affected by power failures. Consequently, regional grid operator Stedin has decided to invest in both increasing capacity and replacing cables. These measures should help reduce the duration and impact of any power outages that do occur. Visser & Smit Hanab has been commissioned to execute the project.

In all, it will consist of installing 14 kilometres of cable from Utrecht to Harmelen, by way of Vleuten. A total of 6,350 metres of that will be installed in 20 separate HDD operations: 6 of the HDDs will be carried out using the V&SH 100-tonne capacity drilling rig; the remaining 14 with the recently acquired 27-tonne capacity rig.
