Replacement & installation of pipelines Staatsolie Maatschappij

Staatsolie Maatschappij Suriname has contracted Visser & Smit Hanab to replace the existing high-pressure pipeline and to install extra pipelines under the Saramacca River, to the west of Paramaribo. The project includes three horizontal directional drillings. Before drilling could commence, V&SH carried out preparatory work, such as assembling the strings, for the pipelines that have to be inserted later.

A 350-metre drilling (16” HDPE pipe) forms part of a connection between La Prevoyance and Catharina Sophia and the other two drillings are for a connection between Sarah Maria and Josie Kreek. The drillings at the latter location have lengths of 373 metres (bundle of 2 x 16” pipes, one 12” and one 8” HDPE pipeline) and 720 metres (10” steel pipeline) respectively. A 250-tonne rig was used for drilling.

Visser & Smit Hanab is responsible for the entire project, from design to execution. When the drilling is completed, a great deal of work will have to be done to install the associated manifolds with scraper traps and tie-in.

The project will continue until the end of November / beginning of December 2015.
